Sourdough Bread – Stanhill Farm

by | Apr 16, 2025 | Dartford Business

We are pleased to announce that from the middle of April we will have sourdough bread available! Produced locally by baker, Sourdough Mikate, we will be offering a range of nine different varieties of sourdough bread. Sourdough has been requested by many customers over the years, so we are very excited to be working with a sourdough bakery!

Choose from: Classic White, 80/20 (White & Wholegrain), 70/20 (White & Rye), Malted Grain, Sesame, Olive & Herb, Cheese & Onion, Jalapeno Cheddar and Big Cheese.

Sourdough bread, made through natural fermentation, offers several potential health benefits, including improved digestion, better blood sugar control, and increased nutrient absorption, resulting in a healthier choice than other types of bread.

The fermentation process breaks down complex carbohydrates and gluten, making sourdough bread potentially easier to digest for some people, especially those with sensitivities to gluten. The fermentation creates a prebiotic environment, which feeds beneficial gut bacteria, promoting a healthy digestive system. This process can also reduce the levels of certain carbohydrates that can cause bloating and gas in some individuals.

Sourdough bread has a lower glycaemic index than white bread, meaning it causes a slower and more gradual rise in blood sugar levels. This slower rise in blood sugar can be beneficial for individuals with diabetes or those trying to manage their blood sugar levels.

Sourdough can be a good source of vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins and selenium.

The fermentation process can promote a healthy gut microbiome, which is important for overall health and well-being. Sourdough bread does not require the use of artificial preservatives, as the fermentation process naturally extends its shelf life.

Orders will be delivered to the farm every Friday morning, for collection from 9:30am onwards.  Please place your order by midday on a Wednesday. Our first delivery will be on Friday 18th April. To place your order, please visit: www.sourdoughmikate.co.uk.

If you have any questions or queries regarding sourdough bread or the ordering process, please email: info@stanhillfarm.co.uk.
