Local garden designer Rebecca Sheppard, founder of Verde by Becky, is set to make her debut at the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair with a garden that’s as personal as it is beautiful.
Her creation, The Islands: From Rain to Sun, draws on her experience blending British and Dominican cultures and tells the story of two worlds meeting in one garden. “One side captures the energy and warmth of the Dominican Republic with fiery reds, oranges, and yellows,” says Rebecca. “The other features cool blues and purples, reflecting rainy storms, alongside pinks inspired by traditional British rose gardens. The circle of water running through the space represents connection — a reminder that love and family bridge any distance and unite two islands.”
Through Verde by Becky, Rebecca brings her passion for plant-led, imaginative design to projects of all sizes, from home gardens to public spaces. “It’s more than just a planting scheme,” she explains. “It’s a celebration of identity, culture, and how gardens can tell a story.”
The BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair runs from 29 to 31 August 2025 at Audley End House and Gardens, Saffron Walden, Essex. It promises a fun and inspiring day out for local residents and visitors alike, featuring stunning show gardens, expert talks, plant sales, and hands-on workshops. Visitors can get involved by participating in interactive sessions and chatting with the designers. Rebecca will be there to discuss her garden, share her inspiration, and inspire others on similar journeys.
