Are you a private resident who needs help in your home to enable you to live safely & independently?

Even if you are in work, or have savings, the Council may be able to help with financial assistance to improve your quality of life.

Dartford Borough Council has funding available to provide financial assistance to help residents who:

  • Cannot be discharged home from hospital without works or adaptations being completed, for example, as they cannot climb stairs
  • Want to avoid admission or re-admission to hospital
  • Want to continue to reside independently in a safe and warm home, where their health is not being detrimentally affected by their housing

There are a variety of grants available to help our residents; Hospital Discharge Grant (up to £5000); Safe and Secure Grant (up to £5000); Discretionary Assistance Grant (up to £7500); Disabled Facilities Grant (up to £30,000) and varied assistances for energy efficiency measures.*

Types of works the grants could pay for include: assisting with essential works such as repairs; property adaptations like stair lifts; level access showers; minor works such as key safes & grab rails; moving furniture to allow downstairs living in the short term, purchasing necessary equipment not available elsewhere, heating repairs or replacement to enable homes to be efficiently heated for residents whose long term health conditions or age makes them vulnerable to the cold.

Even if you are a homeowner, in work or have savings, the Council may be able to help with financial assistance.  To find out more or even if you’re unsure that we can help, give the Private Sector Housing Team a call on 01322 343152 or email housinggrants@dartford.gov.uk and we will be happy to advise.
