Kent-based singer Victoria Onuora will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Singing Marathon, with Bluewater confirmed as the official venue partner for the challenge, starting today, Monday 19 January – the current record stands at 105 hours, and Victoria is aiming to sing for 144 hours or more, the equivalent of six full days.
Starting at 10am on ‘Blue Monday’, often referred to as the most depressing day of the year, Victoria will be bringing an uplifting soundtrack to the Kent-based shopping and leisure destination, while attempting to sing continuously for six days.
To secure the Guinness World Record title for the ‘Longest Singing Marathon (Individual)’ she must exceed 105 hours of singing and surpass the current record set by Sunil Waghmare in Nagpur, India, in March 2012.
Victoria, a singer of Nigerian heritage, who lives in Folkestone will perform a mix of pop, R&B and contemporary Christian music, transforming the centre into the backdrop for a feel-good, community-focused world record attempt.
Guests to the shopping centre will be able to witness the attempt unfold live on the Upper Level of Bluewater, near Superdry and M&S.
James Waugh, Centre Director at Bluewater, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be the official venue partner for Victoria’s Guinness World Record attempt. This challenge is an extraordinary test of endurance, resilience and passion, and we’re proud that Bluewater can provide a public platform for such an inspiring moment. Starting on Blue Monday makes this attempt even more powerful, turning a day often associated with negativity into one of positivity.”
Victoria Onuora added: “I have always believed in the power of perseverance and faith, and this attempt is about pushing past perceived limits while doing what I love most – singing.
“I chose Bluewater because it is a place where people from all walks of life naturally come together, and I wanted this to be a shared, public moment rather than something hidden away.
“Breaking the record would be absolutely fantastic but I want to share the experience with a community; showing what is possible when you commit fully to a vision.”
If successful, Victoria’s attempt will mark the first time the Longest Singing Marathon record has been broken in over a decade. The challenge will be officially adjudicated under Guinness World Records guidelines, with strict rules around the performance, rest periods and verification.
Bluewater’s guests are invited to stop by, show their support and be part of a potentially history-making moment.
