Dartford MP Gareth Johnson has welcomed the announcement in the King’s Speech today that a law is to be introduced to stop householders being exploited by punitive charges.
The Leasehold and Freehold Bill will tackle ‘the exploitation of millions of homeowners through punitive service charges’.
This news will be welcomed by thousands of people in Dartford who are paying huge sums of money to management companies, with little or no say on how these companies are run or what their money is spent on.
Dartford MP Gareth Johnson, who has been campaigning for better regulation of management companies, said: “Hundreds of people have contacted me to fill in a survey on this issue with a staggering 98% of people unhappy with their management company.
“It is great news that His Majesty has announced this legislation to tackle management companies. This is an issue that causes so many problems for people living in homes throughout Dartford.
“People are fed up with these management companies and they want the power to change them and to appeal against unfair charges and poor services. Residents should be in charge of management companies whereas currently they have no control over them. We need a fairer system for people who own or rent new homes.”
