Five local Dartford heroes joined Jim Dickson, our local MP, and Cllr Peter Whapshott, the Mayor of Dartford, at an event in Parliament last week to celebrate our veterans and remember those who fought for our country.
The veterans placed tributes in the spot allocated to Dartford in the Parliamentary Garden of Remembrance. These tributes recognise people of all backgrounds who defended our country.
The Mayor and veterans had a tour of Parliament and had tea and cake with Jim on the terrace by the Thames.
Jim commented: “It was my privilege to accompany our Dartford heros to Parliament. These defenders of freedom protected our democracy and without them our way of life would look very different today.
“They are special people and represent the very best of what it is to be British. I am delighted to have the chance to honour and thank them on behalf of our Dartford community.”
The Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle partnered with the Royal British Legion to organise the event.
