Love Dartford, Love Your Local Market

by | May 20, 2016 | Dartford News, Uncategorized

Dartford’s Markets are participating in the high profile, Love Your Local Market 2016 campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities, with full support from the wider markets industry and Government.

We shall be joining over 1200 markets across the country by taking part in the Love Your Local Market Campaign and celebrating from 17th – 31st May.

Started in 2012 amidst fears around the sustainability of our nation’s high streets, participants in the Love Your Local Market campaign have staged over 4,000 events and this year Dartford’s Thursday and Saturday Markets will be celebrating with entertainment and a best dressed stall competition. In addition, Dartford Borough Council will be offering rent-free pitches and practical support to local entrepreneurs who wish to try out their business idea in the Markets, while highlighting the importance that our Markets play in the heart of our community, not only for retail but as valuable community assets that provide a focal point.

To share your idea with the Markets Team email markets@dartford.gov.uk.

Councillor Jeremy Kite, Leader of the Council, said, “It’s great to be able to help local people take the first step to making their business vision a reality. Some of the entrepreneurs we have supported on the Market in the past were such a success that they now have bricks and mortar shops in the town centre.”

Graham Wilson OBE, Chief Executive of the National Association of British market authorities says, “Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation. It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates how important the market is to the local community. With the financial backing of the Government we intend to make Love Your Local Market 2016 once again the biggest and best markets campaign the UK has ever seen.”
