Theatre Review: Oklahoma! at The Orchard Theatre from Wed 10th June to Sat 13th June.
Well what can I say, another brilliant show at The Orchard! Oklahoma! is one of the classic feel good musicals and was the first by the amazing collaboration of Rodgers & Hammerstein.
It tells the romantic story of Cowboy Curly McLain and farm girl Laurey Williams as they navigate the ups and downs of love in Claremore, Oklahoma.
Oklahoma! is full of well known songs, just try and stop yourself singing along to Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ or Oklahoma and of course Let People say we’re in Love (which interestingly is rumoured to be the Queen and Prince Phillip’s ‘song’).
You may even recognise some of the cast given that Gary Wilmot of Showstoppers is the hilarious peddler man Ali Hakem. Aunt Eller is played by none other than Belinda Lang (most well known to me as the mum from 2 point 4 children). Belinda is brilliant as Aunt Eller and is clearly a crowd favourite.
That said some of the other cast members are just as stand out Nic Greenshields is brilliant as Jud Fry and has an amazing rich deep voice and Lucy May Barker ensures her character Ado Annie Carnes is light and funny.
The show is spectacular and the singing and dancing phenomenal. The large cast and chorus, wonderful live orchestra and superb scenery help to really bring this love story to life. There are laughs a plenty
Make sure you catch Oklahoma! whilst its passing through Dartford as it will surely brighten your day.
