Lonely Theo the Alaskan Malamute has reached his one year anniversary at Battersea Brands Hatch after being viewed by almost 400 potential owners and spending over nine times the average length of stay of any other dog at the Kent charity.

Three-year-old tenacious Theo came to the rescue centre last year as a stray and is a stunning example of his breed with striking different coloured eyes, one electric blue eye and one dazzling brown. Despite dozens of appeals and pleas he has been overlooked for a mammoth 365 days.

Theo Battersea Dog and Cats HomeThere is no time limit on how long a dog can be cared for at Battersea, but the average length of stay for a dog at the Brands Hatch centre is 40 days. After such a long wait, Theo deserves a second chance and is more than ready for a permanent home to settle in now.

Michelle Bevan, Rehoming and Welfare Manager of Battersea Brands Hatch, said: “We love all 500 of our canine residents who arrive at our centre in Kent every year but Theo really has something special about him, winning over the hearts of so many staff and people who have met him since he arrived with us a whole year ago. He is a beautiful boy with lots of love to give.

“Staff at Battersea Brands Hatch have spent lots of time caring for Theo and training him and he is a completely different dog now to when he first arrived as a stray. He’s also benefited from spending a period of time in a foster home where he got used to normal everyday noises and enjoyed the company of another dog.Theo Battersea Dog and Cats Home

Michelle continued: “Our handsome Theo is energetic, mischievous and loves a fuss from the people who he has built a bond with. New owners ideally need experience of his Malamute breed and should be willing to put additional time and effort into helping him to be the best dog he can be so he can fulfil his potential to be a wonderful pet.”
