I have long been a fan of Annie the Musical so I jumped at the opportunity to go along to The Orchard Theatre when I heard that it is hosting a brand new production of the musical Annie. Another reason I really didn’t want to miss it was that it featured Lesley Joseph as Miss Hannigan and seeing as I have also been a massive fan of Birds The Feather growing up this seem like the perfect show. I can honestly say that I was not disappointed.
For those who may not have been lucky enough to have seen Annie before the basic synopsis is that it’s set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression. Annie finds herself living a miserable life at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage but despite her less than optimistic surroundings is determined to find her real parents. In a stroke of luck she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks which could see things turn around for her but as with all good stories there is always a villain or two who are out to spoil things.
You will know and want to tap along to many of the songs in the show, including It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and probably most well known Tomorrow.
The whole cast was absolutely fantastic and obviously the children were the stars of the show. I was really blown away by how great they all were and the audience were even in to a standing ovation!
I highly recommend this show to everyone, its a real family show and is an inspirational way to introduce younger family members to the theatre.
If you can make time this week, please go and see it, you won’t be disappointed!
