Drivers are being reminded to allow extra time for their journeys as junction 1 of the M20 will be closed this weekend for safety improvements to the carriageway.
More than 350 metres of upgraded central reservation safety barrier is due to be fitted. The new improved barrier will keep the road safe for motorists and require less maintenance in the future.
To allow the work to be carried out safely, the motorway will be closed in both directions at junction1 between the slip roads from 10pm on Friday, December 6 until 5.30am on Monday, December 9.
Amelia Yeodal, National Highways Programme Development Manager, said: “Our work here will improve safety for those using this section of the M20.
“We carefully plan all our work to keep disruption to a minimum. Completing this safety upgrade over the weekend – when traffic levels are lower – is the most effective way to do that.
“We appreciate people’s understanding and patience while we do this and would just remind road users to allow extra time to complete their journeys if they are travelling in this area over the weekend.”
Traffic on the M20 will be diverted up and over the junction using the exit and entry slip roads, while signals at the Swanley Interchange will be adjusted and monitored to help maintain flows during the weekend.
