JOIN ELLENOR FOR THEIR LIGHTS OF LOVE REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

by | Nov 6, 2019 | Health, Dartford Charities, Dartford News, Familly, Welfare, Where to go locally

Christmas can be a wonderful time for many, but we are reminded every year of how difficult it can be for some.  It is a real milestone for friends and families after a loss and we recognise the importance of stopping for a moment and celebrating the lives of our loved ones”.

ellenor hospice will be holding its annual remembrance Lights of Love services on Saturday 14 December, at Coldharbour Road Gravesend. The first service will take place at 4pm and the second at 6pm.

At ellenor, we know that for many people Christmas can be incredibly difficult – especially for those who are grieving.  We understand the importance of remembrance and know that at this special time people need our love and support – they feel the loss of those they hold dear even more, which is why we hold our Lights of Love remembrance services.

The uplifting Lights of Love services offer all families – including those who haven’t been supported by ellenor’s services – an opportunity to pause for reflection and honour the memory of those gone too soon, but will never be forgotten.  By donating to the Lights of Love appeal, you can dedicate one or more lights on our Christmas tree in memory of your loved one. It’s a special way to commemorate their life whilst helping other local families coping with terminal illness this Christmas. The name of your loved one or loved ones will be displayed in the annual Lights of Love book, which you can view throughout the year at ellenor Gravesend.

Kelvin Reynolds, Father of David Reynolds says; “Lights of Love – a perfect description for a special Service which enables us to remember our son David who died in December 2017 aged 37. David loved candles and was a gifted musician too. We have lovely memories of the atmosphere he created with his candles and his music. Ellenor Lights of Love Service creates an atmosphere where people can gather to remember the lives of loved ones who are always in our hearts and minds”.

If you would like to dedicate a light on our Christmas tree in memory of someone special please visit www.ellenor.org/lights-of-love or call our Supporter Care Team on 01322 626509. If you would like to view the dedicated names please arrive half an hour before the service begins, you can also light a candle and write a message on a star. You are welcome then either to take it home or hang it on our indoor tree, in remembrance of your loved one.

ellenor lead chaplain Ben Cooper says: “Our Lights of Love services unite family and friends as we remember and reflect on loved ones who have passed away. We come together with the rest of the community  and share tears and smiles, put our arms around each other and sing Christmas carols, as we gather around our Christmas tree, engage in a moment of quiet remembrance and light a candle in honour of the memory of loved ones”.

There will also be an opportunity to treat yourself to a delicious mince pie and warming beverage!

The Lights of Love services are open to all and are free of charge.  Money raised is used to provide hospice care and support to people facing a life limiting or terminal illness, and their families in Kent.
