DARTFORD MAN CRACKS ON WITH EASTER FUNDRAISER

by | Apr 17, 2021 | Dartford News, Children, Dartford Charities

Dartford businessman Brian Downton spent the Easter weekend unlike the rest of us – taking on a 48-hour challenge!

Starting on Good Friday, he took on the 4x4x48 challenge, to run 4 miles, every 4 hours, over 48 hours.
It meant the 55-year-old was running late at night, over night and early in the morning – but that didn’t stop him from smiling, especially as he was joined by friends and colleagues along the way. Some even turned up for the 3am stints!

It was all in aid of Holding On Letting Go, a charity which supports bereaved children across Kent and South London – he became a trustee last year and is working hard to raise their profile and fundraise too.

Brian, a partner at Downton & Ali Associates, has taken on many mega challenges in the past, including Iron Man and triathlons, but not for a while and despite his training for it, this year’s was the first he’s undertaken overnight.

He said: “I didn’t do one single run on my own. I had my wife on timer duty, making sure I got up to do each one, was eating at weird times but when I got out there, someone was always with me – even for the 3am ones!
“Charities have taken a hit with all their face to face fundraising, events and donations from big events cancelled, so I wanted to help a bit.”

Brian even turned up for HOLG’s quiz on the Saturday night, half-way through it, having come back from a run. He finished the quiz, got a bite to eat, grabbed 40 winks and went straight out for the next one.

So far (as of 17th April 2021) he has raised £4954 – 46%, of his £10,000 target.
His sponsorship page is still open:
