Happy 105th birthday to DBC tenant Betty Bullock

by | Nov 29, 2025 | Dartford Community

Not just anyone can boast about getting birthday cards from both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III – but Betty Bullock can.

The retired nurse from Temple Hill turned 105 on Wednesday, November 26.

To celebrate Betty’s birthday, and 66 years as a Dartford Borough Council tenant, the Council’s Housing team surprised her with an orchid, card and a £100 voucher.

Betty’s daughter, Sue Luff, 76, said: “Mum’s lived in Dartford for as long as I can remember. We moved to mum’s current home when I was 10, most of the people who lived here then that mum was friends with have passed away now, but we still speak to their grandchildren online.”

“She was always part of the community, she still loves knitting and she knits for the homeless even now. She’s famous, or should I say infamous, on my Facebook, I’m always posting things she says and pictures of her and people from all over the world love it.

“We’re already looking forward to Christmas, mum has five Elf on a Shelf toys at home with their own outfits, you don’t have to be a child to enjoy the little things.

Betty, a mother and grandmother, grew up in Rhyl, north Wales and spent the Second World War stationed at Blue Bell Hill, near Maidstone. She worked at Joyce Green Hospital for 30 years as an auxiliary nurse on the night shift while raising her two children.

In 2020, Betty received a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth II on her 100th birthday, now, five years later, King Charles III and Queen Camilla have sent her another.

Sue added: “Not many people will be able to say that they’ve got a card from Queen Elizabeth and King Charles, it’s very impressive.”
