DA top for rescue dogs as Battersea Brands Hatch reveals its most popular postcodes for pooches in 2015

From Dartford to Doncaster, canines from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in Brands Hatch have proved there is no distance too far for a Battersea dog, as they travelled across the country to their loving new homes in 2015.

The Dartford areas came out on top as the most likely place in Kent to have a Battersea dog, with the Rochester and Medway postcodes inching close as runners-up. Doncaster and Peterborough also made an appearance, but it was the south-east London and north-west Kent postcodes bordering the countryside rescue centre that proved to be the most popular.

Scooby the Boxer was rehomed just a few miles from the Kent rescue centre in Sevenoaks, but some went much further than others, with Lucky the Bulldog travelling over 200 miles to his new home in Port Talbot in Wales. Lola the Mongrel certainly gained a few air miles, travelling to the UK from Romania when she was just a puppy, then coming to Brands Hatch a year later where she was rehomed 220 miles away to a couple in West Yorkshire.

One dog looking for a home – regardless of postcode area – is three year old Alaskan Malamute Theo, who is approaching his 500th day in Battersea Brand Hatch’s care. Tenacious Theo came to the rescue centre in 2014 as a stray and is a stunning example of his breed, with striking different coloured eyes, one electric blue eye and one dazzling brown.

Michelle Bevan, Rehoming and Welfare Manager of Battersea Brands Hatch, said: “Theo is energetic, mischievous and loves a fuss from the people who he has built a bond with. We all adore him and desperately want to see him find a new home. The average length of stay for a dog at our Kent kennels is 40 days, so Theo has been with us for over 10 times longer than that. There’s no time limit on how long a dog can be cared for at Battersea, but after waiting patiently for well over a year, Theo really deserves a second chance.”

If you can offer Theo a home please contact Battersea Brands Hatch on 0843 509 4444. Battersea is able to find homes for dogs like Theo with help from  players of People’s Postcode Lottery, who have supported Battersea over the course of 2015.
