College Radio Show Wins Community Radio Award

by | Oct 5, 2017 | Dartford Entertainment

North Kent College are proud to announce that ‘The Kieran Poole Sessions’ won Entertainment Show of the Year at the Community Radio Awards 2017.

NKC Kieran Poole SessionsKieran Poole first created the show back in 2013, and had to rely on friends in the arts industry as his guests. Four years on, the show is completely booked until April next year, featuring a band or solo musician in session, joined by a comedian or actor, and is a regular slot on Miskin Radio every Wednesday 7-8pm.

Kieran originally studied Journalism at the University of Brighton, however decided to branch out into radio, and after a meeting with Andrew Sayers, Curriculum Manager Creative Media at North Kent College, he chose Miskin Radio to start his career. After receiving training from Andrew throughout the summer of 2013, he has continued to progress in his skills, both through Miskin and BBC Radio 2, where he got to work on ‘The Jeremy Vine Show’.

Kieran Poole commented, “It was a fantastic moment (to win the award) and proves if you put a lot of effort into something, you get your just rewards. I thank Andrew for his support and training. He was the first one I rang after winning!”.

Featuring himself as the presenter, he has created a production team of 3 alongside Ben Hopkinson as the producer and Ewan Clark as the runner.

Ben Hopkinson, HNC Creative Media (TV & Film) student, spoke of the successful night saying, “It’s something I am proud to say is something that went straight onto my CV the moment I got home. If you are passionate about anything, then keep at it because you will achieve it, whether it’s an award or a job in the industry”.

Kieran would like to thank his production team by saying, “The show has grown, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. Ewan wants to get into this industry and is gaining the experience whilst working with us, and the show wouldn’t exist without Ben. I used to be able to do it on my own, but when he’s not there I struggle, he is an integral part of the show”.
