Auditions held for ‘A Musical Journey’

by | May 30, 2025 | Dartford Entertainment

‘SYP – A Musical Journey’, is written and produced for the Summer Youth Project, about the Summer Youth Project! In a time where plans are everchanging, why not write our own musical and tell our own story?

Follow Sammy, as they embark on their first Summer Youth Project. With all the ups and downs, when an unexpected twist of fate leaves the project in uncertainty. Building a new venue, the show must go on as Sammy and friends enjoy the adventure of trying to find what show to put on, while learning what it takes to perform, from our beloved Alumni participants.

A Musical Journey is exactly what it will be, with all our favourite songs from musicals such as Wizard of Oz, School of Rock, Little Shop of Horrors and more. Plus, full dance routines and plenty of parts for everyone.

SYP producer and Creative Learning Manager, Terri McCann says:

“When deciding on this year’s SYP, we were reflecting on all the past shows and moments gone by… and while waiting for news on the reopening of The Orchard Theatre, we were unsure, which venue we would be performing in. We are delighted to be back in Orchard West this Summer and we realised that we also had was the makings of a great story.

So the concept of ‘SYP: A Musical Journey’ was born. We will be using all the best songs and moments from previous Summer Youth Projects, with the twists and turns you would expect from any musical. I’m proud to be able to bring the ideas of many together to create a musical journey for our amazing young performers.”

AUDITION DAY – SUN 18 MAY

Sunday saw the Acacia Sports Hall bursting with the talents of local young people, as we held auditions for this year’s Summer Youth Project – A Musical Journey. Greeting old friends and new, the day didn’t disappoint where talent was concerned.

Tatiana De Freytas, who has previously played Freddie in School of Rock and led the cast as Campbell in Bring it On, was once again there to wow us with her vocal abilities.

Madison Bell, who has followed in her sister Olivia’s footsteps, and been with the project since she was 9 years old, wowed us with a perfect dance routine. The auditionees weren’t given the dance steps until the day, by our brand-new choreographer Anthony Whiteman.

Ellis Stoner was also back back back again, reminding us all of the time he met his stage idol Alex Tomkins, who played Dewey in the West End version of School of Rock, when he came to Dartford to work with our cast.

All the young people who auditioned were engaged and excited to be part of this brand new musical written about the summer youth project. They will soon be receiving news on their roles and look forward to learning their lines ahead of rehearsals this summer.
