SECTION ONE
Tyler Christian-Law arrived at Dartford during the summer, having signed from Hornchurch.

The 31-year-old has brought an element of versatility to Ady Pennock’s squad, but does prefer to play either on the left, right, or through the centre of the midfield unit.

Since his arrival, Tyler has made twenty appearances in all competitions (at the time of writing), half of which have been in the starting eleven. He has also scored once to date, which came in the 2-0 victory over Canvey Island back in August.

And he was in good spirits during our recent conversation over WhatsApp…

“I’m all good thank you very much Chris.”

He  continues, “It’s a great feeling to be here playing for Dartford. The facilities and the stadium are great, but so are all the staff around the club, and the fans too!”

Being one of the elder statesmen within this season’s group, Tyler brings maturity as well as hunger to the team. It was this hunger that was one of the reasons why he decided to leave Hornchurch and move to Bericote Powerhouse Princes Park.

“Yeah… after speaking to Ady, it was all about getting Dartford back to where they belong. And, after winning this league last season, I was hungry to do it again.”

As we take a look back to the beginning, a young Tyler started his football career with Wealdstone. His journey then took him to Braintree Town, Potters Bar Town, Horsham, and Hastings United, before he played in the colours of Hornchurch.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the opportunity to be a part of a football academy. Does he think that would have helped him progress further?

“Definitely Chris. Being at a top academy for many years would definitely have helped. Being around players of that standard and being coached at that level can only help with your development.

“However, I’ve been amongst a few (players and coaches) over the years, and I guess when you’re young you soak up information and knowledge like a sponge. So, learning different styles and being coached in different ways was very interesting. Everyone has their own preferences and philosophies.”

Despite not being able to feature in an academy and not becoming a professional player at a high level, Tyler doesn’t have any regrets…

“Being a professional at the highest level is every young footballer’s dream Chris. But, being able to play football at any decent level has also been a great experience, and is very enjoyable still, even to this day.”

He continues, “I’m 31 now, so the possibility of me playing at a higher professional level has sailed now… HaHaHa! But I would like to play for as long as I can, and see where my chosen path takes me.”

Seeing that Tyler has mentioned his age, how does he keep himself fit to continue playing the beautiful game?

“Aside from us training as a group, I try to get to the gym three times a week. It can be tricky sometimes as, throughout the week, I can be literally going straight from work to football or the gym, then straight back to work!”

Aside from his work and club commitments, Tyler likes to travel and spend his free time with family and friends. Seeing that he’s amongst friends and family here, and that his attention is required elsewhere, does he have any words for the Dartford family?

“I do Chris, yes… the ride has been a bit bumpy recently, but we’re getting there. Please continue to stick with us, as I’m sure the group will show you exactly what we’re capable of.”
