Dartford is ready to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Dartford Borough Council is ready to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee after arranging and supporting events across the borough.

With a four day Bank Holiday weekend just over a week away, all of the UK is gearing up for celebration, from street parties and afternoon tea to concerts and large gatherings – and Dartford is no different.

Over the past few months the Council has donated thousands of pounds worth of grants and support to more than 80 churches, community centres, clubs, parish councils and more to make sure everyone can find a way to celebrate 70 years since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II first took the throne.

The Council has also worked with partner organisations to make sure there are plenty of ways to honour this unprecedented anniversary both in and out of the town centre.

Hundreds of families are set to attend our Great Big Platinum Jubilee Party (for kids) in Central Park this Sunday too.

Leader of the Council Jeremy Kite said: “Dartford Borough Council is Making Memories this year and what better cause for celebration than the Platinum Jubilee of our beloved Queen?

“The Council has already started planting new Jubilee Wildflower Meadows and begun the work of planting thousands of new trees across the Borough. In Central Park, our 2022 Floral Bed provides a fitting tribute to Her Majesty and her years of service.

“I know that the memories that matter most, though, are those that arise from sharing experiences with family, friends and neighbours.

“To celebrate Her Majesty’s seventy years of service we therefore hoped to offer funding support to 70 local street parties. Thanks to a huge response from the community we have been pleased to support rather more.

“We are also offering more substantial support to other events, particularly those taking part in the national lighting of beacons to celebrate the Jubilee. These events will take place in communities, clubs, villages and parks across the borough.”
