A celebrity nail artist from Dartford, Kent, has set up Nailing Mental Health, a campaign to raise funds for mental health charities through a marathon eight-hour nail painting session.
Stephanie Staunton, who has tended to the nails of Little Mix, Leona Lewis and Scarlett Johansson and headed up teams at London Fashion Week, aims to raise £30,000 for MIND, with donations to be made to Samaritans and Nailing Mental Health, at an event on Sunday 2 April 2017.
She has been gathering 350 manicurists to perform 6078 nail shape and paints – and hopefully nail a Guinness World Record. Acknowledged by Stephen Fry on Twitter, the event will be held at the 02 Intercontinental Hotel, London.
Members of the public are invited to come and be one of the 6078 to have their nails painted in green glitter by these professionals, at the cost of just £5. Green marks the colour of the mental health ribbon, and the number of nail paints marks the number of people in the UK and ROI who lost their lives to suicide in 2015.
Stephanie comments: “I set up Nailing Mental Health when I was recovering from a traumatic biopolar episode and feel that more people need to be made aware of mental health issues. Hopefully, this event can raise awareness of mental health issues – and the support available.
“Charities need money to continue supporting those suffering, and to do more research into disorders, so I aim to raise £30,000 through this event and a number of other fundraising efforts.”
