Dartford Science and Technology College are working with Healthy Living Dartford on an exciting project, where students and volunteers will build a Community Food Forest and Eco Classroom at the DSTC site in Heath Lane, Dartford. DSTC is a unique, non-selective girls’ school in Dartford, where students make good progress, achieve well and thrive.
An unused field will be regenerated and turned into an area where fruits, vegetables, nuts, trees and other plants and crops will be grown and harvested. A straw bale Eco Classroom will be built, featuring a greenhouse which will also provide heat to the classroom. This exciting project will support sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, provide a space for reflection and a new area for education and community use.
The garden will be used to support mental health and the needs of vulnerable students via Horticultural Therapy. DSTC are currently crowdfunding to raise money and staff are offering workshops to the community for anyone who donates £30 or more. These workshops include cooking, first aid training, dancing and fitness sessions, financial management classes and clay vase classes. This exciting and pioneering project will only be funded if at least £5,000 is pledged by 7th December 2021 at 12:00pm.
If you would like to donate, please visit the crowdfunding page. All donations will go towards funding this innovative project to help reduce climate change and provide our local community with a fantastic new educational area that will increase access to fresh, nutritious food for our students. By educating and inspiring tomorrow’s citizens, DSTC will spread the impact of this project as they take their lessons from it, out into the world.
