On Sunday 18th February The Orchard Theatre hosted a day of family fun, welcoming children into the theatre, some for the first time. The day was themed around Aladdin ahead of this year’s pantomime with families taking part in arts and crafts, Bhangra dancing, theatre workshops and a costume parade.
One parent commented: “How wonderful it was. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at the theatre… time and effort clearly went into the organisation of the day.”
Family Day is just one of the ways that The Orchard Theatre opens itself up to the community, with lots of other creative projects going on. These include The Orchard Theatre Choir, which meets every Tuesday morning and welcomes new members. There is also the Open House event in September which sees visitors being led on free backstage tours and taking part in various workshops. The Orchard Youth Theatre, Sing-a-long workshops and half term Theatre Fun Days are other ways that young people can get involved.
The next community event at The Orchard Theatre is Bounce, which sees the auditorium transformed into a soft play paradise during the Easter Holidays on Friday 6th April.
