The Sir Peter Blake Gallery is inviting local artists to submit their self-portraits for a special exhibition looking at the custom of representing one’s self through art.
Throughout the course of history, artists have created self-portraits for many reasons – to practice their skills, to document themselves and to promote their own image. What’s clear is that self-portraiture is not just about the likeness of the artist, it’s also about the artist reflecting how they want to be seen.
This will be a month long exhibition of self-portraits created by Dartford people. Whether it is a realistic, abstract or symbolic depiction of the subject, we welcome a wide variety of styles. We also welcome a various range of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, digital art and sculpture. We encourage entries from both amateur and professional artists from Dartford, and it can be recent or older work.
If you’d like to enter your self-portrait into this exhibition, please email gallery@dartford.gov.uk and include the following information:
- Your name
- Your telephone number
- Your email
- Title of work
- Medium of work
- Size of work (cm)
- An image of your work
The closing date for entries is 31 January 2020.
The exhibition will take place from the 3rd to 28th March 2020. Artists will be invited to a private view on Saturday 7th March 2020 from 1pm to 3pm.
The Sir Peter Blake Gallery is located in the same building as Dartford Library and is curated by Dartford Borough Council on behalf of Kent County Council’s Libraries Registrations & Archives service. Visit www.dartford.gov.uk/gallery.
