Vintage Tea and Cake Family event in Greenhithe in aid of Help for Leros

by | Feb 1, 2016 | Dartford News, Where to go locally

Help for Leros – aid for refugees. We are a group of Greenhithe mums who started collecting warm clothing for refugee children on the Greek Island, Leros. We’ve been overwhelmed by the local generosity and have managed to send 3 full pallets of clothing, shoes and toiletries. The majority of what we send is children’s clothing packs (warm clothes, hat, gloves, coat & underwear) which are handed out by volunteers to the wet, cold children as they come ashore or from the rescue boats. With a huge risk of hyperthermia we are doing our best to help these innocent children caught up in a terrible situation.

We have been working hard this month and are sending two pallets this week, one to Chios (Greece) and one direct to Syria as these areas also have a clothing shortage. In order to maintain the shipments, we need to raise funds for purchasing key clothing items and to help with freight costs.

Greenhithe Community Centre have kindly donated their hall for us to host a fundraising event on Saturday 6th February 14:00 – 16:00, We are hosting a Vintage Tea and Cake Family event while raising funds to continue sending much needed aid (warm clothes, medicine and hygiene packs) to children and their families on Leros, Chios, mainland Greece and Syria.

You will be able to enjoy delightful cakes and tea served on vintage china, browse through the rails of new and preloved clothes for sale as well as some toys that are looking for a new home.

Moreover, we are putting on a fabulous raffle with exciting prizes including a hamper from Bills at Bluewater, a voucher for Pirate Cove Crazy Golf and much, much more.
As there is still an urgent need for warm clothing such as coats, waterproofs, hats, gloves, waterproof footwear (walking/snow boots), snowsuits as well as baby carriers and much more, we will also be collecting any items you wish to donate at a collection table. They will be lovingly packed and sent to those who need them the most.

We would love you to join us.

Thank you.
