Battersea Brands Hatch is inviting cat lovers to get crafty

The world’s first interspecies knitting club in Kent is being launched at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home where animal lovers can spend time with feline friends and create don-knit-tions for the charity’s homeless moggies.

The Brands Hatch rescue centre is inviting animal and craft lovers to a purrfect afternoon of knitting on Tuesday 13 October from 1.30pm – 4pm at the charity’s countryside cattery. Guests will be able to make blankets, toys and knitted mice – or simply to knit their own project. The creative donations will be used to keep the 220 cats looking for new homes across its three centres warm and entertained, including lovely Lolo who has just marked his 200th day at the centre.

Ruth Dongray, Battersea Brands Hatch Manager, said: “With the colder months fast approaching, our countryside cats are in need of warm supplies and knitted mice to keep them entertained. What better way to build up their winter wardrobe essentials than inviting the public in to lend a helping paw! They’ll be able to hang out with fantastic felines such as Lolo and see how their skills and donations will benefit cats in our Home.

“We hope knitters of all abilities, including complete beginners who will be shown the ropes, will join the fun and relaxed afternoon for people who enjoy the company of cats. We have lots of supporters who like to knit and thought this would be a great way to bring everyone together under one roof to share a mutual love of knitting and kitties.”
