Dartford Real Ale Festival to Celebrate the Green Hop Harvest

by | Sep 24, 2018 | Where to go locally, Dartford Entertainment

Real ale fans are in for a treat as Dartford holds its inaugural Green Hop Real Ale Festival this October.

The festival takes place in the town’s Central Park on the 5th, 6th and 7th October and brings together beers from a variety of regional and local brewers.

Visitors are promised a superb range of ales and event organiser Jeremy Bratten is keen to explain that there’s something very special about beers brewed at this time of the year.

“This is the only time brewers can use fresh hops before they are dried in order to preserve them for use throughout the year.  Fresh hops deteriorate quite rapidly so it is important that they are added to the brew as soon as possible.  The Green Hop ales we are bringing to Dartford will be brewed from hops within 12 hours which gives them an amazing taste. The festival offers Dartford real ale fans a wonderful opportunity to experience some of Kent’s finest beers.”

To celebrate the hop harvest, the Dartford event will showcase the full range of Kent Green Hop beers brewed in Kent.  In addition, entertainment planned for the weekend will include folk music, talks on Dartford’s brewing history and traditional pub games.

Dartford Borough Council is supporting the event and Council Leader Jeremy Kite says he is delighted to be bringing a real ale festival back to the town in 2018.

“Our town has a long and proud brewing history and we have been hoping to bring a Real Ale festival to Central Park for some time. Jeremy Bratten and his team have a great track record of running responsible, well-organised events with a friendly atmosphere and I hope it’s a great success.”

Jeremy Bratten, said: “We’re really excited to be Dartford and the response from local brewers and local businesses has been amazing. Tickets are on sale and I’d urge people to book early to avoid disappointment”.
