Free Dog Microchips Available to Dartford Residents

by | Feb 17, 2019 | Dartford News

Dartford Borough Council and Dogs Trust are teaming up to offer free dog microchipping, free poo bags, general dog health and wellbeing advice, and an opportunity for Dartford residents to talk about any dog related issues in their neighbourhood.

In 2016, it became a legal requirement for all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales to be microchipped by the time they are 8 weeks old. The chip contains the owner’s contact details so that if a dog goes missing or is stolen, it can be returned to its owner quickly and safely. You can be fined up to £500 if your dog is not microchipped.

The event is taking place on Tuesday 12th March 2019 at ASDA Greenhithe Superstore, Crossways Boulevard from 9am-1pm. Look out for the Dartford Borough Council gazebo in the far right hand corner of ASDA car park near the ATM machines. There’s no need to book but dogs must be on a safe collar/harness and lead.

Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council said, “We are proud to be working together with Dogs Trust on this important event, which is free to Dartford residents. Having your dog microchipped is one of the best ways to increase the chances of it being returned to you should it go missing. It’s a legal requirement that all dogs must wear a collar and tag with the owner’s name, address and telephone number on it, but unlike collars and tags which can fall off or be removed, microchipping is a more sure way of ensuring your dog is always identifiable.”
