Frank Bruno to visit Waterstones Bluewater  – Boxing legend Frank to meet fans from 12pm on Saturday, 4 November.

Bluewater Waterstones is delighted to welcome Frank Bruno to the store. Frank will be meeting fans and signing copies of his book, ‘Let Me Be Frank’ on Saturday 4th November at 12pm.

Frank Bruno is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1982 to 1996. Bruno was one of the most well-loved and recognisable boxers in British history, and faced multiple top-rated heavyweights during his career including two bouts with Mike Tyson and a domestic clash against Lennox Lewis. He won the WBC title in 1995. Like Henry Cooper before him, Bruno has remained a popular celebrity with the British public following his retirement from boxing. In 2003 Frank was diagnosed as having Bipolar disorder. His well documented illness put Frank in the public eye and he used this media attention to help with the stigma attached to mental health and to help raise the standards of care given to those suffering with mental health issues. Frank supports many charities for mental health both financially and with his time.

Let Me Be Frank

Let Me Be Frank is the new book from one of the world’s sporting greats. A deeply personal story, Bruno talks about his battle with mental illness, his time inside a mental facility, the impact his illness has had on his family and his career – and his long road back to stability. Now ready to talk about the condition that devastated his world, Frank’s story offers his own unique perspective on living with bipolar disorder. His fears, his triumphs and the great affection he feels for the legion of fans he has to this day. His aim is to give others hope and inspiration. “Ever since I retired, one thing has stood between me and being the man I want to be. My mind. In the end it saw me locked up against my will and pumped full of so many drugs I didn’t have the strength to stand. When I am in the grip of my bipolar disorder and the drugs are pickling my brain I am unable to stand for days. But I will always get back up. It is the only way I know.”

Bookseller Joseph Wise says “Frank was one of my sporting idols when I was growing up. I’m thrilled that fans like myself will have the opportunity to meet him at this signing.”

Frank Bruno will be signing copies of ‘Let Me Be Frank’ at Waterstones Bluewater on Saturday 4th November at 12pm.

This event is free of charge but fans are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Fans must have a copy of ‘Let Me Be Frank’ in order to meet Frank. Please note: No other merchandise or memorabilia will be signed.
