Local lady brings comfort and connection to her clients

Local lady Karen Wilson, a care professional from Bexleyheath, has gone above and beyond to bring comfort to her clients, helping them stay connected to loved ones who are no longer with us.

As part of her role at Home Instead Dartford, a home care company that delivers tailored support to older adults, Karen’s compassionate acts demonstrate the company’s commitment to making a real difference to the lives of older adults and their families.

One example is her work with Gordon, an older gentleman who struggled to visit the garden where his late wife’s ashes are buried. Wanting to support him in maintaining this special connection, Karen had a photo of Gordon and his wife put onto a canvas, purchased a small angel ornament, and planted a rose bush near the gravestone. She also framed a photograph of the garden site, ensuring Gordon could see it from the comfort of his chair whenever he wished. These heartfelt gestures brought immense joy and comfort to Gordon, who proudly displays the framed pictures on his mantelpiece.

Karen’s extraordinary kindness doesn’t end there. In another instance, she discovered that one of her clients was unable to visit his father’s grave in Grove Park Cemetery. In her own time, Karen spent three days locating the grave, cleaning it, and placing flowers there. She then took a photograph, framed it, and presented it to her client, who was overwhelmed with gratitude.

Christina Uppenkamp, owner of Home Instead Dartford commented: “What Karen has done truly reflects her deeply caring nature. She never seeks recognition, yet the positive impact she has on her clients’ lives is incredible. Karen embodies everything it means to be a Home Instead care professional.

“We understand that loneliness is a challenge for many older people, so our Care Professionals do everything they can to keep clients connected to their community and loved ones.”

Home Instead Dartford delivers care to people in the comfort of their own homes, including personal care, such as help with dressing and bathing, dementia care, companionship and home help.
