Pepperhill Recycling Centre Fire and Impact on Dartford Bin Collections

by | Apr 23, 2018 | Dartford News

The closure of the Pepperhill Recycling Centre following a major fire on Saturday evening is likely to pose challenges for a number of local authorities including Dartford Borough Council.

The council has taken steps to minimise the impact of the closure on the collection services it provides to residents but some delays are possible.

With the agreement of KCC our waste contractors, Amey, will take household refuse direct to the Council’s contracted incineration plant at Maidstone and recycling will go straight to the Crayford Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).  Garden waste will be transported to the Swanley compost site and all other street sweeping, litter and unauthorised dumping will go to a transfer station in Sevenoaks.

The extended journey times involved in transporting household waste to Maidstone may result in some delays to kerbside collections but residents are asked to put out their bins on normal collection day and if delays occur we shall endeavour to catch up as quickly as possible.  Amey have committed extra resource to the service during this period.

Residents who would usually visit the household waste recycling centre at Pepperhill are advised to take their waste to the similar KCC facility at Dartford Heath.

We will do everything we can to minimise the impact caused by Saturday’s fire and the cooperation and understanding of residents is much appreciated.

The arrangements described above will be operational for an initial period of one week.  The damage to the Pepperhill facility is being assessed and further updates will be provided when we have them.   Please visit www.dartford.gov.uk  and following links to our Refuse and Recycling pages for further updates.
