Dartford Health Walks are expanding!

As part of the hugely popular local Walking for Health programme, Dartford Borough Council is pleased to be launching a new Health Walk in Greenhithe this month.

The first Greenhithe walk takes place on Wednesday 20 May at 11am from ‘The Place’ Community Café at St Mary’s Greenhithe, London Road.

The new Health Walk will take in the sights of the Greenhithe area including Ingress Park and views of the River Thames. It will last no longer than an hour and afterwards you can enjoy refreshments back at the Community Café.

Walking for Health, run by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support, is a nationwide movement dedicated to improving the nation’s health through walking. Health Walks are free short, accessible, and sociable walks that last around 30-90 minutes. They aim to help people get the most out of walking for their physical and mental health; and they also provide a great opportunity to meet new people.

Councillor Ann Allen says, “It’s fantastic that due to the success of Walking for Health in Dartford we are able to introduce this new walk to the programme. The Greenhithe Health Walk will allow residents to discover and enjoy another area of the Borough at the same time as improving their fitness levels. A big thank you goes to our team of trained volunteers who run the walks.”

Other local Health Walks include:

  • Darenth Country Park Walk – Tuesdays, 10.30am (Weekly). Starting and finishing at Darent Valley Hospital reception area, Dartford
  • Central Park Walk – Thursdays, 11.30am (Weekly). Starting and finishing at the War Memorial outside Central Park, Dartford
  • Swanscombe Walk – Fridays, 10.30am (Weekly). Starting and finishing outside the Old Fire Station, Church Street, Swanscombe

Walking counts towards the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity people should be doing each week. Only 61% of adults in England are currently meeting this recommendation, but walking offers a free and simple solution.
