Support for local charity, Ellenor, is gratefully received

North Kent College Staff and students showed their charitable side by raising nearly £3000 across various events for local charity Ellenor in the past 6 months.

In memory of both a member of staff and a student that passed away respectively in 2019, events have been held to give back in their memory to the charity that brought comfort at a time of need to those involved.

Colin Hutson worked as Head Motor Vehicle Workshop Technician for 7 years, but sadly lost his fight to cancer in March 2019 and Football Academy student Jordan Dawes passed away in February 2019, after suffering with a short-term terminal illness. Each of them was supported for a period of time by the local Ellenor Hospice towards the end of their lives.

Ellenor provides round the clock care to patients with terminal illnesses and their family through what can be a very difficult time, relying on donations to stay open and to be able to carry on the vital work that they do in the local community.

A charity football tournament raising nearly £1700 and a car and bike show raising over £1120 was held at the college campuses to raise a large amount of funds which has been donated to the charity. Presentations were made to representatives of the organisation and it was gratefully received.

Leah Poppy, Area Fundraiser for Ellenor, was thrilled with the donations commenting “Thank you to everyone at the college for raising such an incredible amount for Ellenor. It’s thanks to the support from others that helps us to continue to offer the vital care to our patients and their families”.

Both events are hoped to be repeated next year, turning the charity fundraisers into annual occasions.
