On Sunday 24th July 2016 a group of ladies from the local Healthy Living Why Weight group joined friends and family members at the inaugural Sunday Swanscombe Walkers Healthy Walk.
The friends were discussing during one of the 12 weekly Why Weight meetings how they would like to join a weekly walking group to increase their exercise levels as encouraged by the group leaders to enhance their healthier living regime. The consensus was that the ladies could all make a Sunday morning walk, unfortunately there wasn’t one already in existence in the local area though. Undeterred, the ladies encouraged Maureen Ejimofor to lead the group which she agreed to do.
The group was formed and regular 9am Sunday walks began from the meeting point The Old Fire Station Cafe, in Church Street, Swanscombe.
On Saturday 12th August 2017, a lunch was held at Bartellas restaurant in Meopham. Founding members and current walkers were joined by The Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Rosanna Currans and her escort Corinna Bailey, as well as Kashmir Power, Healthy Lifestyles Co-Ordinator, Dartford Borough Council.
If anyone would like more information about the walks or to come & join us please join our Facebook Group ‘Healthy Family’. We regularly advertise our walks on a Saturday in the following Facebook groups to try and engage local residents: Greenhithe Residents, Worcester Park Residents, Swanscombe Dwellers, Happy & Friendly Greenhithe (Kent) Residents.
The group can also be found on the Walk for Health website (https://www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/walkfinder/dartford-health-walks).
