A green initiative is to be launched by Dartford Borough Council that aims to encourage new parents to plant some green roots of their own.

Family Trees – Lasting Green Memories offers £25 vouchers to be spent at three Dartford garden centres on plants or trees to create a lasting memory, help nurture local wildlife and protect the environment.

The scheme, launched by the Council’s Planet Dartford initiative, is aimed at all parents, whether they’re celebrating a newborn, or a new family member by fostering or adoption. We also want to support parents who wish to mark the unbearably sad loss of a child of any age, so they are also welcome to use this voucher.
The vouchers can be used at Hawley Garden Centre, Millbrook Garden Centre and the Plant Centre at L. Mills Creswick Nursery.

Leader of the Council Jeremy Kite said: “Planet Dartford has brought a lot of initiatives to improve public spaces, Family Trees is a way of giving local parents the power to do something green, and create a lasting memory, in their own home or garden.

“This scheme is open to all new parents, no matter your circumstances, we hope this scheme can bring comfort and a bit of joy to families around the Borough.”

Planet Dartford was set up to ensure the Council leads from the front on tackling climate change. It aims to help others to change, from big strategic partners to local residents, and we’re keen to spread the word across our community.

Recent initiatives include the planting of wildflower meadows and community orchards in parks across the Borough.
