Oyster at Dartford station from Sunday! Southeastern Press Release sent to Dartford Living: More options for Kent commuters as Southeastern extend Oyster to Dartford

Commuters will soon be able to use Oyster and contactless payment cards to travel between Dartford and London on Southeastern’s services.

The extension of Pay As You Go to Dartford comes in to action on Sunday 6th September. The improvement will offer passengers cheaper fares for single Oyster or contactless journeys between Dartford and London than the cost of existing paper fares. It is also hoped the new scheme will speed up ticket purchasing and make it quicker and easier for those travelling during busy periods.

Southeastern’s Commercial Director, Mike Boden, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to offer this service at Dartford station. The investment in this region will benefit a huge number of people and make it easier and cheaper to use our services.”

Rail Minister Claire Perry said: “As part of our long-term economic plan we are bringing our railways into the 21st century. This extension of Oyster card and contactless payment technology will make life easier for rail customers every day and ensure seamless travel for commuters in Dartford who travel into the capital.”

TfL’s Director of Customer Experience, Shashi Verma, said: “This is just one of the many contactless and Oyster projects we are working on to make paying for transport easier for everyone travelling in the Capital and beyond. Over 20 per cent of our pay as you go customers use contactless already because it is so quick and easy. There’s no need to top-up, you just touch in and out with your credit or debit card.”
